Project Goals
From the research completed on the deep dive surveys in early 2024, our organization has plans to take our lessons and knowledge gained from the Lake Tahoe program and begin to put it to work for a second lap around Lake Tahoe in coming years; hence the pseudo-name “72 Mile²” (or 72 mile squared). The Lake Tahoe Deep Clean project will be covering ground not yet cleaned by divers at depths of 35 to 55 feet, using a new type of gas to breathe and a propulsion vehicle to get us going faster. Results from our first pilot dives in early 2025 using DPVs and nitrox will dictate how fast we are able to move around the lake, yet our organization is planning on doing about +/- 15 dive days per year on this project, with an estimated 3 years to complete a full second circumnavigated clean up of Lake Tahoe.
