Project Goals
Our plans in 2020 were originally to begin the circumnavigated clean up of Lake Tahoe but with the onset of a global pandemic we were forced to reconsider our goal. As we began to look for an alternative focus, Truckee locals Ella (10) and Olivia Hoyer (8) brought to our attention that there was a submerged litter problem in Donner Lake. After a survey dive our team confirmed that Donner Lake was in need of our help, so, our team rallied funding from the community and was able to complete a full shoreline circumference clean up removing over 5,151 lbs from beneath the surface. The funding also supported Hoyer’s goal of putting up signs on all 37 public piers to remind visitors to pack out what they pack in.
Project Outcome
- Removed 5,151lbs of litter
- 8 miles completed
- 101 tires removed
