Project Objectives
- Collect and sort all litter using the UNEP litter categorization standard adjusted for freshwater.
- GPS mark heavy lift items, hot spots, unknown or historical objects, new AIS, and algal blooms.
- Compare all litter data from the monitoring program to 2021 data from our 72 mile cleanup of Lake Tahoe and draw conclusions on how impactful the 72 mile clean up was, and how frequent additional cleanups will be needed.
- Perform deep dive surveys at 35 and 70 feet to assess litter accumulation at deeper depths in Lake Tahoe and suggest next steps if needed
- Add to the Lake Tahoe data set and bring findings to the Lake Tahoe Litter Summit to help inform and educate policy makers and other organizations and agencies.
